Welcome to the Monday morning edition of “In The Pinch”. I’m not sure if you noticed, but this weekend was full of “I can’t believe that just happened” moments. For those readers who aren’t of legal age to drink, you may have looked to an older sibling or parent and asked “Is this the great [...]

Ladies and Gentlemen, please press down firmly on your lap bar, keep your hands and feet inside the roller coaster at all times and secure all loose items such as hats and sunglasses. This ride will get bumpy. Think Texas Cyclone – a rough ride full of ups and downs – without the neck pain.

Spring Time. It’s the only time of the year that you can look through a box score and go “who the hell is John Gall?” Well, unless you’re a Pirates fan. ($5 to the first person who can tell me 3/5 of the Pirates starting rotation without using the internet. That’s what I thought.) Spring Training is the only time each year that you get to see what reporters really look like. Shirt, tie, blazer, shorts and tennis shoes. It’s about old veterans and up and coming kids mixing it up on the back fields. Enos Cabell and Jeff Bagwell in uniform? It’s a pretty sight. [...]

Is Miggy planning to run for office? Maybe he should be a journalist. He flip flops more than RJ of the Houston Chronicle. First he wants to play for the Dominican, then he says, no, I’m not playing out of position. Wise choice. Whoops. Two days and one conversation with Alou, Sr., the Astros starting SS is headed to the WBC after all. To play 3B. And maybe SS. And DH. [...]
